What can you, the teacher, do?
·
Talk to the family before the school year
starts. Maybe they want to start the school year by explaining why their hand
looks different to the class or maybe they don’t want to draw attention to it. Try
to accommodate their methods.
·
Advocate for your student by encouraging them to
try new activities. Don’t baby them, but show them and their classmates that
they can do the same activities others can. Kids with congenital hand anomalies
can usually function normally.
·
Create a classroom environment where diversity
is embraced.
