Self-awareness, self-conscious emotions, and perspective
taking
These emotions develop at the age when kids start going to
school and start socializing. As a result, they become conscious of the way
their hands look.
Talk to your child
It’s best to openly talk about their hand anomaly. They will
accept their differences if you can accept their differences. Talk to your
child about teasing and curious classmates so that they can be ready when they
meet other children. Prepare them with strategies to cope with bullying. There
are many resources on www.bullying.org.
Assistive Technology
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
requires public schools to provide special education services to eligible
students. The student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) will have more information.
