Congenital Hand Deformities: Undergrowth

There are 7 different types of congenital hand deformities. Type V is brachydactyly or undergrowth. Brachydactyly is the underdevelopment of the fingers or thumbs. What underdevelopment may look like:
·         small finger
·         missing muscles
·         underdeveloped or missing bones
·         missing finger

Treatment: Surgery and prosthetics are not the bottom line. My daughter, Carol is self-sufficient and does not need any treatment. Other children, however, may function better with surgery, occupational therapy, or adaptations. As children grow, treatment methods will need to be adjusted to match their needs and interests.
